Alva is a Stockholm-based designer working with textiles, color and sensory compositions. Her work is driven by the feeling that many spaces and objects are impersonal and finished, shaped by rules we inherit without knowing it. She explores embodied and spatial autonomy: how we can feel at ease in our surroundings and take part in forming them.

Her process is intuitive and hands-on. Ideas grow through making, from material, from color, from the body itself, as in her graduation project Vocal Characters, where her voice became a design tool. Traditional techniques and textiles are often present, and color is her compass. She layers patterns, colors and materials until something new appears in between.

She is drawn to the simple, the unpolished, and the slightly off: things that carry traces of hands and use, made to be lived with. Many of her projects are made for more than one person, and she is most interested in the moment a design stops being hers and becomes something shared.
